ITER, the world’s largest fusion tokamak, is currently under construction in southern France. The consortium, comprising representatives from 35 nations, is working together to build Earth’s first net energy device capable of sustaining fusion for long periods of time while testing integrated technologies, materials and physics principles.
Over the past 14 years, the project has seen organizational and physical progress in governmental, technological and building developments. Now, operational facilities at ITER—Latin for “the way”—are under construction including the First Plasma plant and tokamak building. The group has introduced an interactive worksite tour to keep the public informed on site progress and encourage engagement.
