Estimating cost of carbon steel, pure helium storage tanks

In order to perform an indicative cost assessment of our helium cryogenic plant (still in the design phase), I need an estimation of the cost of carbon steel room temperature pure helium storage tanks. The storage pressure is 20 bar. Can anyone give me suggestions about how to estimate the cost of these tanks? We estimate an overall quantity of gaseous helium to be stored of 2400 kg or 760 m3.

  1. We bought 2x400m³ (OD 4m x 34m length) helium gas storage tanks -1/20 bar in 2007 for about 825 Euro/m³. But you have to take into account that the transportation is a big cost factor for tanks of that size depending strongly on your local situation. We were lucky that the company is located less than 100 km from our site, the transportation costs (on road) where “only” about 20% of total costs.
